In 1999 John Agnew handed day to day running of the business to his sons, Martin and Geoffrey. Martin became Managing Director of Wholesale and Foodservice and Geoffrey became Managing Director of Retail and Property. John continues as Group Chairman.

Henderson’s is a model of a well run, progressive business which remains family owned and in 2005 it underwent a major image change. It is now the Henderson Group with operating divisions, Henderson Wholesale, Henderson Retail, Henderson Property and Henderson Foodservice.

In 2011, Henderson Foodservice unveiled its new state-of-the-art distribution facility in Mallusk, following an investment of £14m into the project. The move came in response to strong sales growth, resulting in a need for expansion and consolidation of its two previous sites.  The new facility provides 125,000 sq ft of hi-tech frozen, ambient and chilled warehousing, as well as a suite of new offices, which will centralise resources and strengthen the company’s current service and efficiency levels.  The facility’s new cold store alone is 31,474sq ft and is the size of almost 4.5 standard football pitches!

The new facility integrated several energy-saving systems, designed to lower its carbon footprint. Eco measures include the re-use of heat from compressors and refrigerators to fuel roof space and under-floor heating systems and temperature-control doors on the cold stores; efficient motion-sensitive lighting systems, hot water generated by the air-conditioning system and individually monitored electricity and water meters, plus recycling facilities throughout the building.

There is also a new access road allowing direct access from Mallusk Road into the Foodservice site, and with eight goods in docking bays, it allows for efficient logistical operations.

The extent of Henderson's growth is clear to see. It is a model of a well-run family and stand with a great reputation in the Northern Ireland business community. Its success is due to its profile standing true to the ideals of William Agnew, that - "Hendersons Have it All".
