Work has completed on an extensive refurbishment project at a popular convenience store in Ballymena.

SPAR Dunclug, which serves the Doury Road area of the town, has been fully refitted under the watchful eye of new owner, Conor Connolly.A well-known local retailer, Conor took ownership of SPAR Dunclug back in October 2018 and set about revamping the store and providing more modern facilities for the local community.

With wider aisles, new flooring and lighting, SPAR Dunclug now offers a much larger range of fresh food and dairy products along with the popular Butchery and McAtamney’s meat ranges. The store has a Barista Bar Coffee kiosk, complimented by an extensive line of hot foods and now features a Morelli’s ice-cream counter.

The adjoining off-licence has been incorporated into the store which will also feature a PayPoint machine and an external ATM, making it easier then ever before for local residents to access funds and pay household bills conveniently.

Conor said having worked in Randalstown for some time, his family were excited to be back in Ballymena.

“My family has a long association with trading in Ballymena. My father ran the Dunvale Arms for many years and I’m very pleased to be continuing his legacy and serving the people of this area.

“I want to work with the local community to make SPAR Dunclug the go-to for all their daily needs and try and support the causes and issues that matter most to our customers. I hope the people of Ballymena recognise how much work and effort has gone into revamping the store and I’m looking forward to welcoming lots of new customers through our doors over the next few weeks and months.”

Sarah Halliday, Channel Sales Manager within the Henderson Group, congratulated Conor and his team on the new ownership: “We wish to extend our congratulations to the Connolly’s and their team and wish them every success with their new SPAR store. We’re seeing more and more customers across Northern Ireland choosing to support retailers in their local area and when the offering is as good as SPAR Dunclug’s, it’s easy to understand why this is.

“This is the 294th SPAR now operational in Northern Ireland and we have plans to continue to grow this number over the next few years.”
