One lucky shopper is £6,500 richer today after being named SPAR’s 12 Deals of Christmas cash prize winner.

Patricia McAlea from Glengormley bagged the grand finale prize which wrapped up the 12-week campaign at SPAR and EUROSPAR stores and supermarkets across Northern Ireland, winning from thousands of entries by shoppers.

Patricia commented; “I shop at my local Glenwell EUROSPAR store on the Antrim Road and I’ve been picking up the deals over the weeks with the 12 Deals of Christmas campaign, and entering the prize draw each week too. I wasn’t successful with any of the vouchers, but you know what they say – you’ve got to be in it, to win it… I can’t believe my name was drawn for the cash prize!

“I got the call on Friday to say to come down today as I’d won £500, and then Olivia Nash is there telling me I’ve actually won £6,500?! What a brilliant Christmas present!”

Patricia was met at SPAR Carnmoney Road by SPAR star Olivia Nash, the Give My Head Peace actor who has been helping SPAR celebrate 60 years in Northern Ireland all year, alongside representatives from SPAR NI who gave Patricia her winning fanfare.

Olivia added; “Oh it’s just fabulous to surprise Patricia like this, just before Christmas. I’ve had the best year celebrating with SPAR NI and their fantastic shoppers, and to finish up the year in this way has been very special.”

Sara Murphy, Marketing Manager at Henderson Group which owns SPAR in Northern Ireland added; “We’ve had thousands of entries for our £12K giveaway over the past three months. We have given away £4,500 worth of SPAR NI store vouchers and now Patricia has won the £6,500 cash prize!

“The 12 Deals of Christmas campaign has been another great success for our retailers, boosting sales in the crucial run up to Christmas, as well as ensuring our shoppers get top value on their festive and everyday essentials.”

Patricia now plans to spend her winnings on her five kids, adding; “I’m so excited, this is just a great early Christmas present and I can’t wait to share it with my friends and family and have the best Christmas ever.”
