Community supermarket extension investment provides space for additional services
A further investment into EUROSPAR Kircubbin has revealed all-new and extended services for the local community and the high number of visitors to the Ards Peninsula daily.
The new-build community supermarket opened in early 2022 after a multi-million-pound investment from owners Henderson Retail, who have committed even more investment into the store to further serve its local shoppers and their developing needs.
Store Manager, Clare Gilliland says the extension also provides a home for the new fully serviced butchery counter from J Wright & Son, who have been trading within the store since opening last year.
Clare added; “EUROSPAR Kircubbin opened as a supermarket committed to providing quality and value for our neighbours, conveniently on their doorsteps. Since opening last year, we have identified further demand for even more fresh food to go and we are also delighted to be able to extend the services of our award-winning local butchery, J Wright & Son.”
The butchery will see expert butcher, Ryan Manley providing a variety of cuts for shoppers to choose from, while also giving advice on preparation and recipes. The counter will also offer a delicious range of great value Christmas meat packages in the coming weeks, while complementing the store’s range of fresh, locally sourced SPAR Enjoy Local range of products to pick up for tonight’s tea.
The new Delish Food to Go offering also sees the addition of a hot chicken pick and mix bar, alongside SPAR’s own new Fresh Cream bakery range, bringing more treats to go for the continued ‘day out’ and local trade that passes through the Peninsula daily. Visitors can also pick up coffee and treats from Barista Bar, and enjoy within the in-store seating area.
Since opening in February 2022, the store’s team has been committed to engaging with the local community and getting involved in fundraisers and initiatives for their charity partner, Cancer Fund for Children, as well as local organisations that are of great importance to the staff and their shoppers.
Clare finished; “In 2023 alone, we have raised over £6,100 for various local charities so far. The team has been passionate about making a difference in the local community, while having fun doing so! We have done everything from colour runs to bake sales, name the bear competitions and various in-store collections for charities such as Cancer Focus NI, Barnardos and the National Autistic Society, which are important for several members of our team.
“Our store is also within an area of outstanding beauty on the Ards Peninsula, and we are very proud to keep our area clear of rubbish with several litter picks organised by the team since we opened. Finally, we are also part of a group of stores that has partnered with The Warehouse, Newtownards, a foodbank that has been experiencing increasing demand in the past year or so.”
Mark McCammond, Retail Director at Henderson Retail added; “EUROSPAR Kircubbin is a fantastic example of our investment into community retailing to ensure we are delivering to the needs of local neighbourhoods. Not only can our shoppers work with our team to make a difference to the charities, clubs, groups and organisations that matter to them, but they can also have confidence that we are providing essential services from our Post Office to our in-store butchery counter, while also offering a huge amount of value on everyday products, including a host of prices in-store matched to Tesco*.
