Biggest year yet for local retailers at prestigious Retail Industry Awards
SPAR and EUROSPAR retailers in Northern Ireland have celebrated their biggest year of awards at the London ceremony for the Retail Industry Awards.
Local retailers picked up 15 awards across several independent, multiple and company owned categories, with 11 winners and four highly commended gongs.
Independent retailers including Becky and Lucy McCammond, who own SPAR Abbot’s Cross in Newtownabbey picked up Post Office Retailer of the Year (independent) for the second year in a row. Judges praised the extended hours and services as a powerful example of knowing exactly what customers need; “A commercially strong post office offer designed around the needs of its customers.”
Becky and Lucy McCammond were named highly commended in the Rising Star Award.
In Newry, the team at Mulkerns EUROSPAR won the Independent Community Retailer of the Year award, while also picking up Highly Commended in the independent Food to Go Retailer of the Year category, while Mulgrew’s Food Hall in Carryduff was named Highly Commended in the Independent Retailer of the Year category.
Henderson Retail dominated the multiple categories, taking home Community Retailer of the Year, Convenience Retailer of the Year, Food to Go Retailer of the Year and Forecourt Retailer of the Year.
Individual and team awards included Nigel Walker from EUROSPAR Hardford Link, who won Store Manager of the Year, while Store Team of the Year went to colleagues at EUROSPAR Carrickfergus Milestone, with the team at EUROSPAR Downpatrick Highly Commended in the category.
Company Owned store wins included SPAR Route Service Station, Ballymoney and EUROSPAR Wallace Village, Lisburn in two Forecourt Retailer of the Year categories, while SPAR Malone Road took home the company owned Post Office Retailer of the Year.
Noel Hegarty, Managing Director of Henderson Wholesale commended the independent retailers for their wins on the night; “Once again, these prestigious awards have recognised Northern Ireland retail is at the top of its game. Our independent retailers are forward thinking, fast moving and provide quality service, products and support for their local community, right in the heart of their neighbourhoods.”
Henderson Retail invested £28m in more than 50 store development projects while expanding its customer-insights programme across 90 fuel forecourts in 2025. Judges praised ‘a business that continues to innovate, adapt and grow year after year while remaining firmly at the heart of the communities it serves’.

The Retail Industry Awards took place in London and were hosted by comedian Mark Watson. The evening celebrated the outstanding retailers, businesses, teams and individuals whose hard work continues to move the sector forward.
