Local store opened by 100-year-old Nellie as brand celebrates 100th outlet
A very special opening took place in Tattyreagh last week, with 100-year-old Nellie Grugan the guest of honour, as she officially declared ViVO Essentials in Tattyreagh open.
The store, a £450,000 new build which is owned and operated by independent retailers Andrew Short and his daughter Laura, resides on the site where Mrs Grugan’s business operated for over 40 years, and the Shorts were delighted to welcome her and the family as part of the official opening celebrations.
Laura Short, store manager commented; “Our store is very much a part of the community so we wanted to honour our neighbours and the legacy of the plot which has gone before us, and we’re so pleased Mrs Grugan agreed to be our special guest. She is a fantastic woman, and for her to open the 100th ViVO in Northern Ireland after celebrating her 100th birthday is just a lovely coincidence for us. We hope she brings us lots of luck!”
Speaking of the new build, Laura added; “Our store is a state-of-the-art 1,700 sq. ft store unlike any other in the area, and at this uncertain time, we’re proud to have created 15 new jobs in our community as we continue to navigate this pandemic. Local shoppers can also be assured of strict hygiene and safety measures in store following local government guidelines.
“We’re very proud to get the new store over the line and open for our local shoppers. We are providing new services to the area such as Barista Bar coffee, a hot and chilled food deli bar, and extensive array of fresh foods, as well as the latest tech innovation from EDGEPoS Scanning. With services such as National Lottery, Paypoint, free to use ATM, a new six-pump MAXOL forecourt with extensive parking and our very own off licence, the store is a huge asset for the local area, and we’re excited to join the network of independent retailers operating under this successful brand.”
On the day, the team ran a series of celebratory £1 promotions for shoppers, including £1 per litre of fuel, which was a huge success with hundreds of locals availing of the deal. Other promotions included a homemade sandwich or wrap from the in-store deli which makes up a range of hot and cold breakfast and lunch options throughout the day, and a 2kg bag of The Greengrocer’s Maris Piper Potatoes for just £1.
ViVO Essentials Tattyreagh and the team will also take part in fundraisers for the ViVO brand charity partner, Age NI.
