Peter McBride honoured for contribution to local community and retail industry

Peter McBride, Director of McBride Retail Group, has been honoured for his contribution to the local community, as well as his on-going commitment to the retail industry in Northern Ireland, and further afield.

Peter, who runs 11 SPAR stores in Fermanagh, Tyrone and Armagh, celebrated 30 years as a successful independent retailer on Wednesday 04 July with a special lunch celebration at Lough Erne Resort & Spa.

It was timely as the Retail NI initiative “Independents’ Day” which falls on the 4^th July and encourages shoppers to visit their local retailers on the day and throughout the year, was also taking place. This included a specially commissioned helicopter with Q Radio, which landed at Lough Erne Resort and interviewed Peter live on air.

“We were delighted to honour Peter and mark the hugely positive contribution to both his local community and to the wider industry here over the years.”

Peter’s stores have raised significant sums for charity over the past 30 years, supporting both a number of local projects and larger initiatives for UK-wide organisations, such as current SPAR NI charity partner, Marie Curie who received a cheque for £6,995 from the stores’ Blooming Great Tea Party campaign in June.

Peter commented; “It is very humbling to have been surprised with such a special celebration with colleagues and my family. Over the past 30 years, the retail industry has changed enormously and I’m proud that the McBride Retail Group has been able to consistently deliver for our local shoppers, provide over 400 secure jobs across 11 sites, and continue to grow over the years.”

McBride Retail Group will be celebrating with staff, shoppers and local communities in September with family days, new charitable initiatives and a host of giveaways and promotions throughout all stores.
