Castlewellan pupils awarded as ‘Litter Heroes’ for cleaning up their community
Pupils from Knockevin Special School have been awarded as ‘Litter Heroes’ thanks to their commitment to cleaning up their local area, as part of a campaign from SPAR NI.
The retailer awarded the pupils with a class trip to W5 to show their appreciation for their hard work and dedication to their local community after the school was chosen from a recent campaign on Q Radio.
Schools were invited to nominate themselves as Litter Heroes for a chance to win the class trip as part of the retailer’s commitment to keeping every village, town and city within which they operate in Northern Ireland, clear of rubbish.
Six members of the school’s student council have been taking part in weekly litter picks throughout the school year to clean up their school and surrounding areas.
Bronagh Luke from SPAR NI commented, “It’s amazing to see so many schools across the country getting involved in cleaning up their local communities. Our SPAR store teams are dedicated to cleaning their local areas, with many taking part in multiple litter picks each year, and it’s great to see this being passed down to the younger generation.
“The litter picks are part of ‘The Joy of Living Locally’ brand positioning which launched in 2022, in which all of our stores put the needs of the community at the heart of their offering, nurturing their neighbourhoods through fundraising, supporting local initiatives and cleaning up their communities.
“We know that schools are great at keeping their local areas clean, so we wanted to reward them for that. Well done to Knockevin Special School!”
