A St. Joseph’s Primary School pupil has got his career off to a head start by landing his dream job for the morning at the newly reopened EUROSPAR Donaghmore.

11 year old Daíthí McGeary wrote to the store after learning about entrepreneurs in class, and told store manager Gillian Hunter he hopes to work in a SPAR when he is older “because there is so much to do there”, which prompted Gillian to invite him over for the official opening of the all-new supermarket and learn all about the new products and services available.

EUROSPAR Donaghmore has reopened after a multi-million-pound investment from owners Henderson Retail, and now stands as a community supermarket with an abundance of fresh foods that has more than doubled in size from its SPAR predecessor, bringing over 2,000 additional products to its shelves. Shoppers can fill their trollies with some of the best local products available in the local area, many of which are within a 20 mile radius of the store.

11 new jobs have been created with the expansion, which also sees a new food-to-go offering from Delish, with a range of hot and cold meals, sandwiches, wraps and salads, plus the Delish Chicken Pick ‘n’ Mix bar. Shoppers can also choose from a fresh selection of baked breads and pastries from the SPAR Bakery.

M&W Farm Meats of Portadown will provide the finest fresh meats and poultry with their in-store team’s expert knowledge and advice, alongside a selection of locally sourced pre-packed meats and ready to cook meal options. The counter will also offer a range of artisan products, from conserves to oils, sauces and spices to complement the range of locally sourced products.

Store Manager Gillian Hunter added; “We have opened a fresh foods superstore which champions all the fantastic local food producers in the area who we will highlight in-store so our shoppers can make more informed choices about what they put in their trollies. These local companies include Skea Eggs, Origin Fresh, Pinkertons of Armagh, Eglish Baking Co., Cloughbane Farm Shop, McCormick Potatoes, McLaughlin’s Bakery and Rocwell Water.

“We have a thriving food sector and rural local community in Co. Tyrone, and it is important for us to support our local farmers and suppliers. Everything we do at EUROSPAR Donaghmore has a local stamp on it, and we are huge champions of our local community. This will only get bigger and better with the new store, and our additional team members.”

Donaghmore residents are famous for the pride they have in their community, with the village winning several Best Kept Village awards over the years from both Ulster in Bloom and Britain in Bloom. In keeping with that local pride, Henderson Retail has landscaped the area around the supermarket to install floral barrels throughout the forecourt, a wildflower garden, raised flower beds and an array of hanging baskets as part of Donaghmore in Bloom.

The store has also donated £200 towards the Donaghmore Horticultural Society and their on-going commitments to the community.

The store’s Assistant Manager and Community Rep, Stephanie Devlin has recently engaged with several local schools to provide sports day kits, and has also donated plants to Donaghmore PS eco club. Stephanie has also provided tea, coffee and buns to the Women’s Institute for their meetings, and organised a Big Spring Clean with the store staff to clean up the Pomeroy Road and Garvagh Road around the store.

Stephanie will also oversee long-term partnerships with Donaghmore GAA, fundraising for Air Ambulance NI and Cancer Fund for Children, donations for Dungannon Foodbank and will ensure the store supports the local Torrent Centre which provides facilities for 37 community groups.

Stephanie commented; “Air Ambulance NI is a literal lifeline for our rural community, and on our opening day we organised a ‘spinathon’ with some of the local Young Farmers and GAA footballers to raise money for the charity with us. We are so grateful to all who donated, as well as Malachi Cush for adding a little local celebrity magic to the morning.”

Mark McCammond, Retail Director at Henderson Group added; “EUROSPAR Donaghmore continues our ambitions to invest in building supermarkets which bring high quality service, value prices and an abundance of locally sourced products under one roof. The team has made a huge commitment to their local community, which showed on opening day with both St. Patrick’s Primary and Donaghmore Primary Schools helping us officially open the store.

“This is the prime example of a true community supermarket with a hugely extended range, supermarket pricing, butchery products and an increased fresh local food offering and local employees. Shoppers no longer have to travel into Dungannon to find supermarket deals, for example, as they will benefit from our Tesco Price Match, which matches prices on over 1000 products, while the new 67-space car park provides even better accessibility and convenience. The 4-pump fuel forecourt and takeaway Barista Bar coffee and treats also brings a much-needed service station facility to the rural area.”

EUROSPAR Donaghmore opens daily 6am – 11pm.
