SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA retailers and shoppers have raised a huge £149,353 during recent months from events including the Blooming Great Tea Party, Community Coffee Morning and Balmoral Show for charity partners Marie Curie and Cancer Fund for Children.

In March, a magnificent £62,545 was raised in one morning at over 60 EUROSPAR AND VIVOXTRA stores as part of their Community Coffee Mornings in aid of Cancer Fund for Children, and in May SPAR’s sea of red hats returned to Balmoral Show, bringing in almost £10,000 as show goers donated what they could in return for one of the most in-demand products at the Show.

Following this fantastic total, generous shoppers helped over 200 SPARs across Northern Ireland raise £77,142 during the Marie Curie Blooming Great Tea Party in June.

SPAR NI’s Blooming Great Tea Party is the biggest of the UK-wide Marie Curie event and has taken the total raised in Northern Ireland for the palliative care providers to £229,089.

Every penny of the amount raised since 2017 goes back into local communities in Northern Ireland to provide vital services like overnight nursing care and to purchase essential equipment used by the organisation when caring for cancer patients.

Bronagh Luke, Head of Corporate Marketing at Henderson Group, owners of the brands in Northern Ireland said; “Once again, we’ve proven to have the most generous shoppers and hardworking retailers who have such a passion for making a difference in their local communities.

“Both Marie Curie and Cancer Fund for Children provide valued services for those facing the toughest times of their lives, and we’re proud to be able to support them through our SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA brands.”

Conor O’Kane, Senior Partnership Manager at Marie Curie added; “SPAR in Northern Ireland has raised an incredible amount to ensure the services we provide to terminally ill patients are readily available across all communities.

“SPAR NI hold the biggest Blooming Great Tea Party in Northern Ireland, where over 200 stores came together to have fun with fundraising, involve their community and do all they could for our organisation and for that, we are so grateful to receive this amazing sum of money.”

At Balmoral Show, SPAR NI interacted with thousands over four days who visited the SPAR Shop on site, as well as the enjoy local Marquee and SPAR Arena to experience everything from food sampling from some of SPAR’s local suppliers, to jiving in the arena.

The NI Ambulance Service was back on board and trained even more show-goers in CPR, while Ulster University’s Food and Consumer Testing Suite found even more super tasters to help them taste test SPAR’s own-brand ranges.

Bronagh finished; “the enthusiasm from the public in supporting our events and charity partners is unwavering, and we’re delighted that so many people interacted with us at Balmoral Show this year. It was a huge success for everyone involved.”
