SPAR refueling runners at the 2019 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon
The event organisers of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon are delighted to introduce SPAR as one their new sponsors for 2019.
The largest single participatory sporting event in Northern Ireland is set for a massive year of change with a brand new, flatter and faster route for marathon participants, a new start location on the grounds of the iconic Stormont Estate and history will be made by moving the event to a Sunday for the first time ever.
SPAR are working with the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon to bring even more positive changes, including sponsorship of “Fuel Stations” along the new 26.2 mile marathon route; a welcome addition for marathon participants as they push through the miles on Sunday 5th May 2019.
Plans are in place again for energy stations along the route, inclusive of High 5 gels and Powerade. In addition to this, SPAR will be providing a nutrition point with fresh oranges from their local stores. They’ll also be supplying a Fuel Station with SPAR jelly beans to help provide a further energy boost to marathon runners.
Commenting on SPAR’s new partnership with the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon, Bronagh Luke (Head of Corporate Marketing at Henderson Group) said: “We are honoured to be associated with such a fantastic event. The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon brings so many positive benefits to the city. It encourages participants to be more active and promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and with the race itself, the relay; fun run; and 8 Mile Walk, there really is something for everyone.”
Bronagh further commented: “The same can be said for SPAR. We’re passionate about encouraging our shoppers, retailers and employees to eat healthy and enjoy regular exercise. With over 290 stores across Northern Ireland, SPAR is committed to bringing communities together and creating enjoyable, family experiences. We know from sponsoring other running events such as the Omagh Half Marathon and the SPAR Craic 10K how much runners value extra encouragement on the day so we’re especially looking forward to refueling the runners and cheering participants on to reach the finish line!”
The event returns in 2019 with a full line up of events to suit all levels of fitness including the Marathon and Wheelchair Race, the Team Relay, 8 Mile Walk and Fun Run, all with brand new improved routes. All events will start at Stormont except for the Fun Run which will start and finish at Ormeau Park.
Entries are open at www.belfastcitymarathon.com via the brand new MyTicket App. The current rate is available until 28th February with a final entry deadline on 12th April 2019.
