Describe what a typical day at work looks like for you

Start work at 9am.  Reports must be done for previous day and files imported into accounts system, to bring all of the deliveries from previous day in.

Run a BACS payment every morning and ensure all payments are relevant. This needs two authorisations so it’s essential it is done as early as possible.

When deliveries come in from warehouse for the previous day these need sorted into filing, to be actioned and GRNS with invoices attached.  Those that have invoices attached get posted immediately.

Other get filed to be matched with invoices that come in the post.

Post would get matched once a week and processed.  When invoices are free from queries they get filed away alphabetically.  Those with queries are posted, but the file doesn’t come in until update overnight so they cant be actioned until the following day.

Email queries are constant and need dealt with

Every evening the rates figures are updated on each system before going home.

Who and what are you responsible for?

I don’t have any people that I am responsible for.

The work I am responsible for is BACS and bank payments daily.  Posting of all invoices that come into purchase ledger relating to the deliveries we receive into the warehouse.

Sending out debit notes to suppliers that are raised from queries.

Dealing with supplier queries and sorting issues with invoices being priced wrong or delivered short, there is interaction with traders and warehouse staff to get these done.

How does your team fit into Henderson Group?

There isn’t a lot of dealing with Henderson wholesale apart from invoices received from them for goods received.

I would also have to take cheques down to wholesale to get second signature on them.  This is done two or three times a week.

What are the best bits about your job?

It is a fast paced office that has a heavy workload.  There is never a dull moment and I constantly feel challenged.  I have only worked for Foodservice for a year so still relatively new but feel it’s a good office to work in and I can develop my skills when I’m ready as they push for staff development.

Best bits about your company (Henderson Foodservice?

Great staff perks with the Henderson group, such as health scheme and pension.  I never had these in previous employment.

Management encourage staff to train and develop their skills and support them when doing so.

What is the best thing about your team?

I am the most recent employee in my team, so I’m very inexperienced as it was a whole new system (actually 3) that I had to get used to using.  I have great support and training from other members of the team and found them to be very patient with me!

What attracted you to Henderson Group?

I live in Glengormley and was travelling to south Belfast everyday in my previous job.  Therefore the initial attraction was location, followed by longevity of the business which gave me a great sense of job security if I was a successful candidate.

When not working, what can you be found doing?

When not in work I spend a lot of time with my family and friends.  I enjoy walking and am a member of a rambling club with my church.  I recently undertook a beginners course in kickboxing and like to relax by going to cinema or watching a movie at home with the fire lit.
