Describe what a typical day at work looks like for you

A typical day at work for me can be quite varied, but it would all be related to the development of our EPOS system EDGEPoS. In any one day I could be designing or writing a specification for new functionality that will be in a later release of our software. Investigating new technologies; both hardware and software; that could possibly be used within EDGEPoS to enhance the product. I would liaise with external companies and internal Henderson departments to get requirements for new functionality that is needed within the system.  Handing over new work to our development team, so it can be developed and put into the next software release.

Who and what are you responsible for?

I am responsible for the development of our EPOS System. This includes a team of 7 developers and 2 testers. This is making sure that both the development and the testing processes are of the highest standard possible.

How does your team fit into the Henderson Group?

My team develops the EPOS system for all retail stores across the Henderson estate. Due to the software being developed in house it allows us to respond quickly to any changing requirements the other departments have. It also gives other departments better access to higher quality information from store, so they can make better, more informed decisions that will benefit the business.

What are the best bits about your job?

My job is challenging and what I am currently working on is always changing which keeps it interesting and fresh. I have to do a lot of problem solving at both the design level and the code level and it this problem solving that I really enjoy.

Best bits about your company (Henderson Technology)?

Henderson Technology is currently in a very interesting place. Over the coming years it has a number of international opportunities that will make it a very exciting place to work.

What is the best thing about your team?

My team is a group of highly motivated people, that will always go the extra mile to get the job done to the highest standard possible.

What attracted you to Henderson Group?

I have now worked for the Henderson Group for over 11 years, so it is probably more relevant to tell you why I stay.  The Henderson Group is a successful NI company, that has nearly doubled in size since I started. They are very family focused and do a lot of charitable things within the local community.  I enjoy the work and I like the people I work with and the Henderson Group have never given me a reason to think about leaving. The main thing is that I have confidence in the decisions that are being made by the business that will see to the company’s continued success in the future.

When not working, what can you be found doing?

When I am not working I have two young children that use up any spare time that I have.
